Wissahickon Robotics Team honored by Senators

Senators John C. Rafferty, Jr., R-44th and Stewart J. Greenleaf, R-12th, hosted the Wissahickon High School Robotics Team at the state Capitol and introduced team members to the Senate.

The team recently was awarded the International Chairman's Award at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics World Championship held in Atlanta and was honored in the Senate chambers.

Wissahickon, with its robot, Ms. Daisy, was selected from more than 1,800 teams from around the world for The International Chairman’s Award which is FIRST's highest award. Judging for the award was done by a panel of CEOs, astronauts and inventors.

The International Championship brought together hundreds of the best teams from 30 countries. Wissahickon, which won regional championships in New York and Philadelphia on the road to Atlanta, reached the playoffs before being knocked out in the quarterfinals in overtime.

The team also won best web site and cooperation awards during the competition.

More than 50 students and coaches attended the Harrisburg event where the team was presented with a Senate proclamation.
